David Ornstein reveals Man Utd's stance on re-signing Paul Pogba
Manchester United have no plans to reunite with midfielder Paul Pogba on a free transfer, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Red Devils will likely make several signings during the summer. There could be changes in midfield based on the manager’s requirements.
Christian Eriksen could walk away when his contract expires on June 30. Casemiro could be sold alongside Kobbie Mainoo, who has yet to commit to a new deal.
Amidst this, there has been talk about Pogba returning to the Red Devils after serving his 18-month doping ban.
The midfielder’s ban ended in March. He is free to join any club immediately after his release from Juventus.
PogBackAgain has occasionally trended on social media, but Ornstein has dismissed the speculation.
In a Q&A session by The Athletic, the reputed journalist was asked about ‘a return to United’. He clarified that it is not on either party’s agenda.
He said: “PogBackAgain is not on either party’s agenda. He continues to train ahead of joining a club this summer.
“Plenty of interest, but not aware of a firm decision being taken yet. I’ll make some checks.”
United have made the right decision on Pogba
The Frenchman made 233 appearances for the Red Devils. He registered 39 goals and 48 assists.
Despite his good statistics, Pogba did not live up to the hype during the back end of his United career.
He struggled with ankle, hamstring and calf injuries between 2020 and 2022, which reduced his impact.
Pogba left on a free transfer and has since struggled to find consistency due to his injury record.
He sustained seven injuries in his time at the Bianconeri before mutually parting ways with them.
This could be a potential warning sign for clubs looking to sign him.
At 32, Pogba is no longer in the prime of his career. With his fitness issues, United have made the right decision not to consider a reunion with the World Cup winner.
