Back then, the FA Cup was a huge trophy to win. On FA cup final day, the streets would be empty, tv coverage was wall-to-wall, lasting from 9 am to 6 on both (yes, both) channels. Winning the FA cup meant automatic qualification for the European Cup Winners Cup- the second level Euro competition- back in the days when only one team qualified for the European Cup (today's equivalent of the Champions League). .

Went to both matches as a 15 year old. At Maine Rd, just before the end of the match, when it was still level, I turned to my mates and said 'I really don't think I can afford Arsenal' (for the second replay), then everything went very quite'. ..

Honestly, the worst night ever as a Blues fan. So near and yet so far.
