Fabrizio Romano confirms Man United are interested in ‘gifted player’

0 0

Midfielder Xavi Simons is one of the most outstanding talents in European football. He has established himself as a key player for RB Leipzig and the Netherlands.

He attracted interest from several clubs, including Manchester United, last summer, but a deal never materialised.

The 21-year-old remained at Leipzig on loan before the Bundesliga outfit signed him permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in January for £68 million.

Described as a ‘gifted player’ by former Leipzig manager Marco Rose, Simons has been impressive this season, contributing eight goals and six assists across all competitions.

He is set to be the subject of a transfer tussle again this summer, with several clubs, including United, monitoring his situation, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano (via YouTube).

“Premier League clubs were interested in Xavi Simons one year ago. There was interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man United when Erik ten Hag was the coach.

“The case remains the same; United still appreciate the player, as well as Liverpool. All these clubs have been calling to be informed about Simons’ situation.

“It is still early; we do not have any advanced negotiations, but the situation could be open in the summer. All these clubs are watching closely to see what happens between Leipzig and Simons.

“Because I understand there is a concrete chance the player leaves, with Barcelona a dream club and the Premier League a reality. The player would not turn down the opportunity to play in the Premier League.”

Despite securing the Netherlands international’s signature permanently in January, Leipzig could lose him to a bigger club this summer, particularly if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

United could be priced out of a move for Simons

Simons is a creative outlet and goalscoring threat, making his signature appealing to Man United.

However, they could be priced out of a move for him, as Leipzig is expected to demand a substantial fee for his services.

The Red Devils will likely be reluctant to spend big on players this summer, making it unlikely they will sign Simons.

The Dutch midfielder also has other suitors who could offer him a more lucrative financial package and a better guarantee of success than the Man United.
