Bruins Hint At New Jerseys After Potential Leak In TV Segment

The Bruins didn’t confirm new jerseys are on the way. But they didn’t deny it, either.

The Bruins universe and jersey universe converged Monday night after a CBC segment on … United States tariffs. The big takeaway: Boston might soon have a new look.

The segment from the Canadian news outlet was devoted to the potential impact of American tariffs on the business of producing NHL jerseys. It was a generally interesting look at how the worldwide economic situation could affect a uniquely Canadian process, but what got hockey fans buzzing was what came at the 1:03 mark and then again at the 1:38 mark.

A factory worker could be seen folding and then altering Bruins sweaters that don’t exactly look like Boston’s current look. The new jersey appeared to look a lot like the team’s Centennial Game sweater from earlier this season — with two major differences. The first difference is that these jerseys didn’t have the centennial patch (at least not yet), but the other difference, far more subtle, might be the tell.

In these “new” jerseys, the piping on both the sleeve and lower torso (the bottom) are different. In the centennial jersey, the gold of the arm piping went all the way down to the end of the sleeve. In these, the piping stops around the elbow crease, very similar to what the team wore in the 1980s and early 90s. The waste piping is also more in line with that retro look.

The jersey also includes the modern Spoked-B and does not appear to include the famous bear logo from those sweaters.

The Bruins (sort of) weighed in Tuesday with a post to X. The team quote-tweeted a screenshot from the video from Icethetics with a caption that read: “April Fools? ????”

If the Bruins are making a change, what obviously isn’t clear right now is whether it would be a full change or just another third sweater.

Boston has been more than willing to change things up in recent seasons. The centennial game jersey marked the culmination of a year-long celebration during which the B’s completely overhauled their look for the entire 2023-24 campaign. The club also has introduced two new third jerseys in the last decade.

However, the Bruins haven’t done a complete kit overhaul since moving to their serifed-B set in 2007.
