Weekend preview: Big away double
Royal Wootton Bassett Town's Women's First Team and Men's Development team face a pair of big away fixtures this weekend. On Sunday Bassett visit Gloucester City, who have now been confirmed as South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North champions and have still only dropped just two points all season. Kick off is 2pm. If Bassett can take anything from the game it will be a huge achievement - and help Adam Wood's side keep the pressure on second place Bitton in the battle for runners-up spot. Bassett ran Gloucester close in the reverse fixture back in November, falling to a 2-1 defeat. Prior to that on Saturday the Development team visit their Salisbury equivalents in their penultimate Wiltshire League Premier Division fixture of the season (3pm kick off). Their big win against Trowbridge Town and draw at second place Letcombe mean Bassett stand five points ahead of Salisbury (who are two places below them and currently in the bottom three). But Mark Simpkins' side aren't safe just yet. A win will guarantee that Bassett finish outside the bottom three, while a draw will mean that Salisbury need maximum points from their final two games and for Bassett to lose their last match away at Bemerton Heath Harlequins Reserves. It's therefore set to be a tense encounter - here's hoping Bassett can deliver for the third week in a row.
