Former Tottenham defender slams Daniel Levy as a hypocrite after wage reveal
Daniel Levy sent a warning to Tottenham fans about the club’s financial position on Monday, but Ramon Vega has now questioned the truth behind the Spurs chairman’s assertions after details about his own salary came to light.
On Monday, Tottenham released its financial results for the year ending June 2024, with the accounts showing that the club had posted losses for the fourth year in a row.
Along with the results, there was also a message from Daniel Levy, where the Spurs chairman warned that the club’s transfer spending over the last few years is not sustainable.
He made it clear that Tottenham Hotspur will not make any decisions that will jeopardise the long-term financial stability of the club, but Vega has now suggested that the Spurs chairman has not put his money where his mouth is.
Ramon Vega hits out at Daniel Levy’s priorities at Tottenham
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has shared the details of the salaries of all Premier League directors, with Levy earning comfortably more than their counterparts.
The figures show that the 63-year-old took home a salary of more than £6.5m, which is more than double any other chairman across the division.
Vega relayed these numbers and questioned why Levy’s assertion about not spending beyond the club’s means does not apply to his own paycheck. The former centre-back also accused the club’s hierarchy of not prioritising on-pitch success.
How much has Levy earned across his Spurs tenure?
This new update comes on the back of a revelation a few months ago which revealed how much Levy has earned since taking over as Tottenham’s chairman back in 2001.
Since ENIC’s takeover of Spurs, Levy is estimated to have been £51m in total, which is comfortably more than any other chairman during that time.
However, one has to remember that the 62-year-old is essentially a minority owner of Tottenham, given the stake he has in ENIC.
Additionally, it is due to Levy’s decisions that the club’s revenue streams have been boosted by hundreds of millions over the last decade. A £6.5m salary still means that the Tottenham chairman earns less than the five highest earners in the Spurs first-team squad.
