Derby County boss John Eustace believes that Erik Pieters will add lots of experience to the group at Pride Park and also hailed the defender as a ‘fantastic human being’.
The 36-year-old defender joined Luton Town on a short term arrangement in December, but departed the Hatters in January.
With Pieters a free agent, Eustace decided to move to bring the defender to Pride Park on a contract running until the end of the campaign.
The Derby manager feels that in the defender he has added someone with huge experience to the squad, which is a trait he wants to have plenty of in the group.
Eustace explained that he considers the Dutchman to be a ‘fantastic human being’ and believes his arrival has been a big boost for the club.
The Derby boss, asked what Pieters will add to the group, told Rams TV (1:06): “Just experience. It’s important we get as many experienced players as we can, good people, good characters in the group which are going to help the squad.
“Erik comes with lots of experience, he’s a fantastic human being and he’s going to help the group from now to the end of the season.
“We have to remember him coming in was a time when Sonny [Langas] got injured as well, we were not too sure about his fitness until the end of the season.
“So we were left short in that area and Erik coming in has been a big boost.”
Eustace believes that the 36-year-old will help the team on the training ground with his experience and feels Pieters has got the character that will help the team handle the tough situations better.
He added: “The way you get through difficult moments is having good people around and having good characters.

“Erik’s experience is there for everyone and he is helping the group on the training field especially which is great.”
The Rams are in excellent form, winning three back-to-back matches, and are two points behind 21st placed Cardiff City with a game in hand.
Eustace’s men are set to face Preston on Wednesday at Pride Park, and will look to secure their fourth win on the bounce against a Lilywhites team that have won once in the last six league matches.
