United make key decision on 12-goal star ahead of FA Youth Cup semi-final clash

0 3

Manchester United have decided whether talented striker Chido Obi will play in tonight’s U18 FA Youth Cup semi-final against Aston Villa.

There had been uncertainty regarding Obi’s involvement with the U18s today as he has been promoted to the first team.

He made his debut against Tottenham Hotspur and has played in three of the last five league games.

It has now been confirmed that Obi is part of United’s traveling squad for their meeting with Aston Villa at Villa Park, according to The Daily Mail.

However, talented full-back Harry Amass will not be involved in the competition for the first time this season, having played in the last four rounds.

He could feature for the first team against Forest, having made his debut against Leicester City before the international break.

Before his promotion, Obi was impressive for the U18s, scoring 12 goals in nine games across all competitions for Adam Lawrence’s side.

He has also been prolific in the FA Youth Cup, scoring seven goals, including a hat-trick against Chelsea and braces against Coventry City and Preston North End.

The winner of tonight’s encounter between the Red Devils and the Villans will face Manchester City or Watford in the final on May 3.

Obi’s inclusion boosts United’s FA Youth Cup hopes

Man United are the most successful team in the competition’s history, but they have not won it since defeating Nottingham Forest in the 2021/2022 season.

Obi could help them reclaim the title. He is one of the country’s most clinical young strikers, and his presence gives United an added advantage.

The 17-year-old is the competition’s top scorer, and the Red Devils are far more dangerous in attack with him in the squad.
