Red Sox Top Prospect Roman Anthony Puts On Show At Triple-A

It’s going to be hard for the Boston Red Sox to keep the top hitting prospect in the entire sport in the minors for long if he keeps doing what he did Sunday.

Roman Anthony put on a hitting clinic for Triple-A Worcester against the Syracuse Mets by belting two titanic home runs in a 12-0 win at Polar Park.

Both of Anthony’s round-trippers were to be admired. The first blast from the 20-year-old outfielder came in the sixth inning when he smacked a 412-foot home run with an exit velocity of 109.6 mph well over the right-field wall.

Anthony displayed his power again in his next at-bat for another impressive home run. This time, Anthony hit a 364-foot shot to the opposite field with a 106.4 mph exit velocity to score two runs.

That wrapped up the day for Anthony, who went 2-for-3 from the top spot in the lineup with three RBIs and two walks.

Anthony showed already he can handle the Triple-A level. After his promotion to Worcester in August of last year, Anthony batted .344 with three home runs and 20 RBIs in 35 games.

Anthony potentially could have made the Opening Day roster for the Red Sox, like fellow prospect Kristian Campbell, if there was a vacant spot in Boston’s outfield. But with All-Star Jarren Duran in left, a strong defender in Ceddanne Rafaela in center and Wilyer Abreu, who started off the season scorching hot, in right, Anthony found himself back in the minors.

But with performances like he put on Sunday, he surely won’t be there for much longer.
