Tottenham accused of putting themselves in transfer limbo this summer

0 5

Paul Robinson explains why Tottenham Hotspur have put themselves in a very tricky position ahead of the summer transfer window, suggesting that the club would not be able to plan for it at the moment.

Even though there is still a lot of football to be played before the transfer window reopens in the summer, the nature of footballing media these days is such that speculation has already intensified regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s top targets.

Just a few days ago, it was reported that Daniel Levy is prepared to greenlight a significant summer spend at Tottenham as the Lilywhites aim to make some big moves in the market.

The same outlet explained that the North London club have already started doing the groundwork on some potential signings, but Robinson doubts if that is possible.

Paul Robinson makes Ange Postecoglou claim ahead of transfer window

There continues to be speculation over the Tottenham managerial hot seat, with some reports claiming that Ange Postecoglou’s job is in serious doubt, no matter what happens in the Europa League.

Robinson believes that the Australian will be sacked this summer if Spurs do not win the Europa League and suggested that the uncertainty over the 59-year-old’s future means that the club would be unable to make concrete plans for the summer.

The pundit told Football Insider: “The only way he keeps his job is by winning the Europa League – you look at the season that they’ve had, it’s been a really poor season. A really poor season.

“If they win the Europa League, it’s not been a poor season – they’re in the Champions League next year and they’ve got a trophy in the cabinet. Other than that, there’s no other way that keeps his job.

“I can’t see a different way; they’re not closing the gap on the top six, top seven – whatever it’s going to take to get European football – they’re not even closing the gap on the top 10.

“The outgoings at Tottenham… The conversation’s on hold basically for players coming in and out of the club. You wait and see who the manager is, who the new manager’s going to be next year.”

Will Johan Lange be hamstrung by managerial uncertainty?

It was reported earlier this week that Tottenham are expected to have a summer of change, with not only Postecoglou, but also several first-team players potentially on their way out.

As Robinson mentions, planning for new signings can be tricky when the club are unsure about who their manager will be at the start of next season.

However, that would not stop Johan Lange and Tottenham’s recruitment department from identifying and reaching out to potential targets, with the North London club facing a crucial transfer window.
