Man Utd "considered loan opportunities" for 18yo starlet but Amorim awarded him his senior debut
Manchester United starlet Harry Amass made his senior debut in the 3-0 win over Leicester City on 17th March.
Amass entered the pitch in the 69th minute, helping United see out the game while securing a clean sheet.
Nick Cox, the head of Man Utd’s academy, praised the 18-year-old defender.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News, Cox said: “He’s been in and around the first-team squad for maybe about a year, hasn’t he? I don’t pick the team, so the reasons why he wasn’t selected [before Leicester] will be valid, but that’s for the coaching staff and Harry to know the reasons, but he’s had to be patient.
“It wasn’t as if he wasn’t disappointed. He’s kept working, kept improving and been ready for when the moment comes.”
Amass had already caught the eye during United’s pre-season tour of the United States, featuring in all three matches and showcasing his attacking instincts.
Many expected him to break into the first team sooner, particularly with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia sidelined, but former manager Erik ten Hag overlooked him.
Despite being repeatedly snubbed, Amass remained committed, delivering standout performances for the youth teams.
Cox also revealed that United explored loan options for him in January but ultimately decided to keep him at the club.
He said: “We certainly considered loan opportunities for Harry, but it’s one thing to consider a loan and to find the right match.”
Amass has finally broken into the senior squad and could see more first-team action before the season ends.
United fans will be hoping he follows in the footsteps of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, cementing himself as a regular in the squad.
