Tottenham may have their own Kevin De Bruyne problem in North London
Gabby Agbonlahor has made a comment about Heung-min Son’s perceived decline and has suggested that Tottenham should follow Manchester City’s example ahead of the summer transfer window.
Son has already secured his legendary status at Tottenham Hotspur, irrespective of what happens from now, given the outstanding decade-long service he has given to the Lilywhites.
However, there is a very real danger that the South Korean’s time at the club will end in a whimper rather than in the glorious manner in which Spurs fans would want.
The forward will enter the final year of his contract this June, and reports indicate that Tottenham could listen to offers for Son this summer.
Gabby Agbonlahor draws parallels between Son and Man City star
Agbonlahor has now insisted that it is clear that the Tottenham man is no longer the player he once was, pointing out that he has not turned on the afterburners for a while.
The pundit suggested that Spurs may be better off doing what Man City are with their legend Kevin De Bruyne, urging the Lilywhites to part ways with the forward this summer.
The former Aston Villa striker told talkSPORT: “I look at a player like Son. Son has been an outstanding player hasn’t he for Spurs? At his best, the pace he has, but watching him over the last season and a half.
“He’s not showing that electric speed. He’s 33 in July, is it time for Spurs to move him on? Kevin De Bruyne is moving on at Manchester City, and it’s a similar sort of scenario”
Ange Postecoglou continues to back Heung-min Son
Postecoglou has hit back at Son’s critics and has continued to completely dismiss any suggestions that his form this season is a matter of concern for Tottenham.
The Australian remains adamant that the South Korean remains among the elite forwards in world football and insists that his struggles this season were purely down to fatigue.
The Spurs boss said about Son last month: “His ability to beat players, even in tight areas, is elite. His finishing I think is elite.
“Even this year, as difficult as it has been for us, I think his numbers still stack up. You weigh him up against any winger in the league, he’s still going to be top five. He’s probably been top five in the nine or 10 years he’s been here.
“Not many would rank with Sonny in terms of output on a consistent basis from his position. He’s top 10 per cent of players in his position in the Premier League. Those are the facts and if he’s continuing to do that, there’s nothing to say he should slow down.”
