Chelsea receive major boost ahead of London derby against Tottenham

0 7

Chelsea have received another major boost ahead of their clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, as Blues star Cole Palmer returns to training.

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are miles apart in the Premier League table, with the Blues sitting in fourth while the Lilywhites languish in 14th place.

Regardless of their positions, this fixture is always a heated battle, with both sides desperate to get one over their London rivals.

For Spurs, a win would provide a huge morale boost and some much-needed momentum as they look to salvage their season.

Chelsea, on the other hand, needs all three points to solidify their push for Champions League football next season.

Cole Palmer back in Chelsea training ahead of Tottenham clash

The Blues were given some encouraging news earlier in the week as Nicolas Jackson returned to training, boosting their attacking options ahead of the derby.

They have now received further good news regarding their talisman, Cole Palmer, who was a major doubt ahead of this clash.

Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail has reported that Palmer has returned to training with his teammates for the first time since suffering a muscular problem before the international break.

This is a huge boost for Enzo Maresca’s side, as Palmer was instrumental in Chelsea’s 4-3 win the last time these two sides met in the Premier League.

The Englishman bagged a brace that night, and his presence would significantly strengthen Chelsea’s attacking threat.

Tottenham’s Stamford Bridge struggles continue

Of course, Spurs will be eager to finally get one over their London rivals, but history is not on their side.

Stamford Bridge has been a miserable hunting ground for Tottenham, with their last win there coming in 2018 when Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen fired them to victory.

Before that, Spurs had failed to win at Chelsea’s home for 28 years. The task ahead remains daunting, but with Tottenham in need of a victory following their poor run of results in the League, Ange Postecoglou’s side will be eager to break the curse and claim a statement win in west London.
