Tottenham insider reveals plot twist after false Andoni Iraola top target claims
Tottenham’s former scout, Mick Brown, who remains well connected at Hotspur Way, has revealed that it is not Andoni Iraola who is at the top of Spurs’ wishlist to replace Ange Postecoglou, but rather another Premier League manager.
Postecoglou’s future at the club continues to be the subject of much speculation, given Tottenham’s continued struggles in the Premier League.
According to various reports, Postecoglou has been told he will be sacked if he does not secure European qualification for next season.
Various sources have claimed over recent months that Andoni Iraola is Tottenham’s preferred candidate to take over at the end of the season if they decide to make a managerial change.
It has even been suggested that Spurs have already reached out to Iraola regarding taking over at N17 at the end of this campaign. A recent report even claimed that Tottenham have picked Iraola as their top target, and the club are not afraid of his £10m release clause.
Mick Brown claims that Tottenham are big fans of 47-year-old manager
Iraola is not the only Premier League boss the Lilywhites are rumoured to have their eye on, with some outlets suggesting that Tottenham could turn to Marco Silva in the summer.
The Fulham boss’ stock has grown considerably this season, with the Cottagers currently sitting just three points off fifth place, which is expected to be enough to qualify for the Champions League.
According to Brown’s sources, it is the Portuguese coach who is currently at the top of Daniel Levy’s shortlist of managers.
He told Football Insider: “Tottenham, unless they put a run together from now to the end of the season, you would think that things might happen [to Postecoglou] there in terms of the sack for the manager.
“Silva would certainly be top of the pops in terms of competition for that [managerial] spot, that’s what I’m hearing from my sources there.”
Fulham determined to keep Marco Silva off Tottenham’s clutches
This update from Brown comes just a week after it was reported that Fulham are ready to fight to ensure Silva does not join Spurs.
The West London club are allegedly willing to show ambition in the transfer market by backing their head coach with the signings he wants.
Fulham are reportedly hopeful that doing so will convince the 47-year-old to stay and build on the good work he has done at Craven Cottage.
