Red Sox Over Dodgers? MLB Exec Makes Enticing World Series Case

The Red Sox had a successful offseason, and one MLB executive believes it could pay off for MLB’s ultimate prize.

Boston made an emphatic statement on Opening Day with Wilyer Abreu’s two-home run game, including a game-winning three-run homer, against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Thursday. The vibes were high for the Red Sox, and people in MLB don’t want to be caught behind the bandwagon.

ESPN’s Jesse Rogers released the results of a GM and scout survey Friday. The MLB reporter asked the executives who was most likely to beat the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The Atlanta Braves earned the most votes with seven out of 18. However, one person voted for the Red Sox.

“If the Red Sox prospects/young guys like Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer are all part of the lineup come October, I’m going with the Red Sox,” the executive told Rogers.

The “big three” showcased their talent in spring training, and Campbell earned a spot on the Opening Day roster. It seems like it’s a matter of when, not if, Anthony and Mayer join him this season. Boston preached patience with its prospects, but their talent is not lost on people outside of the organization and fanbase.

It’s ambitious to already have World Series plans. However, it goes to show how impactful the offseason moves the Red Sox made were.
