Djed Spence makes Heung-min Son admission amidst transfer rumours

0 6

As speculation continues to run rife over the future of Heung-min Son, Djed Spence has now made an admission about the South Korean’s importance to the Tottenham side and what he brings to the table as a leader.

Son has looked well short of his best so far this season and with the forward turning 33 this summer, many are starting to question if he is now past his best.

The Tottenham Hotspur captain enters the final year of his contract this summer and there is no indication at the moment that the North London club are about to offer him an extension.

Various outlets over recent months have suggested that Son’s decade-long spell at Spurs could come to an end this summer, with the Lilywhites backed to cash in on their legend.

Djed Spence reveals Heung-min Son’s influence at Spurs

There has been a lot said and written about the former Bayern Leverkusen man’s form, with various pundits even questioning if Son still has the hunger for the game.

However, Spence has now set the record straight regarding the Tottenham captain, revealing that he is among the hardest trainers and pointing out that the forward still has excellent numbers this season.

Spence told Rio Ferdinand Presents about Son: “He leads by example. He’s in early every day, does the right things, and just sets the example on the pitch. He trains hard every day, and when it comes to matchday, he gives his best, and his numbers speak for itself I think.”

Ange Postecoglou also references Son’s excellent numbers

Even though Son has looked well short of his best, he has still managed 11 goals and 11 assists this season, which demonstrates his class.

Spence is not the first to point to the 32-year-old’s impressive numbers in front of goal this season, with the Tottenham head coach doing the same while defending the forward against criticism last month.

Postecoglou thinks Son is still among the best players in his position across the Premier League, insisting that his struggles this season are down to a lack of time to recover between games.

The Australian said last month about Son: “His ability to beat players, even in tight areas, is elite. His finishing I think is elite. Sonny’s benefitted from the fact he’s been able to have a break between games.

“We saw that on the weekend after being able to recover from one game to another and having a full week to get his energy levels back, he was outstanding, particularly in the first half. And he was great before.

“You never want to try to predict with players like Sonny how long he will go for because those kinds of players I think always defy whatever odds there are because of the way they look after themselves and conduct themselves, the levels.

“Even this year, as difficult as it has been for us, I think his numbers still stack up. You weigh him up against any winger in the league, he’s still going to be top five. He’s probably been top five in the nine or 10 years he’s been here.”
