Tottenham Hotspur are expected to face a huge transfer battle to sign an EFL starlet as the Lilywhites have now been joined in the race for the player by a number of their Premier League rivals.

Spurs have had success with their recruits from the Championship over recent years, with Archie Gray and Djed Spence both having breakout years in N17.

The North London club are now thought to be setting their sights on another young midfielder who is consistently impressing in the English football second tier.

A number of outlets have reported this season that Tottenham are eyeing a move for Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, but the Lilywhites have just learned that signing the teenager will be far from easy.

Man United join Tottenham in Jobe Bellingham race

In a fresh report, TEAMtalk have now confirmed that scouts from Tottenham Hotspur have indeed watched Bellingham closely this season, but they are not the only top-flight side interested.

The report says that Man United are now considering making a move for the 19-year-old in the summer after tracking his performances closely this season.

The Red Devils want to put themselves in a ‘strong position’ to sign the midfielder in the summer, and additionally, they are joined in the race by Brighton, Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

However, Sunderland have no intention of getting into transfer talks for their young starlet at this stage and are expected to demand a high fee for the player.

Sunderland have a chance of keeping Jobe Bellingham

TEAMtalk point out that Bellingham is keen on testing himself at the highest level and may be convinced to remain at the Stadium of Light if Sunderland achieve promotion.

The Black Cats are currently on the brink of securing a Championship playoff spot and retain hope that the financial rewards of promotion would help them keep hold of their star players.

The publication adds that even if Regis Le Bris’s men fail to win promotion, they are in a ‘strong negotiating position’ as Bellingham’s current deal runs until the summer of 2028.
