Tottenham must overcome Aston Villa in race to sign Charalampos Kostoulas

Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on signing Greek wunderkind Charalampos Kostoulas, but they now have a huge problem on their hands after Aston Villa stepped up their interest in signing the player ahead of the summer.

Tottenham’s transfer policy of signing young, up-and-coming talent has proven successful over the last couple of years, which is why the Lilywhites appear to be keen on doing more of the same this summer.

The latest player on the radar is a 17-year-old Olympiacos starlet, who has been setting Greek football alight since making his senior bow at the start of this campaign.

It first emerged at the start of this month that Tottenham have set their sights on Charalampos Kostoulas, but a new update has now suggested that the forward is more likely to end up at one of Spurs’ Premier League rivals.

CaughtOffside have now revealed that it is Aston Villa who are now leading the race to land Kostoulas, who has found the back of the net six times in 21 league matches in his debut season.

It is explained that Villans are extremely keen on landing the versatile forward and have now moved ahead of Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest in the transfer queue.

In fact, it is asserted that Unai Emery’s men already have plans in place on how to build their side around the teenager in the future.

Tottenham thus may have work to do if they are to wrestle their way back to the front of the pack in the race for Kostoulas.

Kostoulas is expected to seal a summer move

CaughtOffside explain that Olympiacos are not keen on selling their academy graduate as they see him as a potential star for the future.

It is asserted that they would demand as much as €30m (£25m) for the forward if any clubs come knocking on their door to ask about his availability.

However, the publication adds that with the interest in Kostoulas’ services growing by the day, Olympiacos will struggle to keep him at the club beyond the summer.
