Conflicting Reports Surface About Patriots’ Interest In Cam Robinson

One might’ve assumed the Patriots would show interest in Cam Robinson given he quickly became the best left tackle available, coupled with New England’s glaring need on the edge.

Robinson won’t be coming to Foxboro, Mass., however, after he reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Texans.

There have since been conflicting reports regarding New England’s level of interest.

NBC Sports Boston’s Phil Perry reported Wednesday the Patriots were interested in Robinson, but the veteran ultimately chose Houston. Questions existed about Robinson’s fit with the Patriots, Perry confirmed, but the organization ended up being interested enough to sign him.

“He didn’t want them,” Perry wrote on X before adding the Patriots felt as though they made a competitive offer.

Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi, however, reported to the contrary.

“Patriots never did the (left tackle) dance with Cam Robinson,” Giardi wrote on X shortly after Robinson joined the Texans. “Questions about football character and beyond.”

Robinson, as you might’ve heard by now, was drafted by the Jaguars when Doug Marrone was the head coach in Jacksonville. Marrone was hired as the Patriots offensive line coach this offseason, meaning those in New England had inside knowledge of the player.

While New England’s level of interest might be debated by Patriots fans, what’s not debatable is the Patriots missed out on a veteran left tackle option and continue to have a glaring need entering the NFL draft.
