Tottenham target already comes Lionel Messi and Mauricio Pochettino approved
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on a young American midfielder, who has been making waves in Major League Soccer over the last two years.
We have already seen plenty of speculation over recent months suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur may turn to an American to address their issues in the middle of the park this summer.
Various outlets have suggested that Spurs plan on activating their £21m option to buy Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis at the end of the campaign.
Now a fresh update has suggested that the Lilywhites could push ahead with a move for Cardoso midfield partner for the United States side.
Tottenham have checked in on Benjamin Cremaschi
TBR Football claim that Tottenham have checked in on the performances of Inter Miami midfielder Benjamin Cremaschi ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old, who Lionel Messi is reported to be a big fan of, has emerged as one of the most promising young players in the MLS, having made a promising start under Mauricio Pochettino for the USMNT.
However, the update reveals that Tottenham are not the only Premier League side who are fans of Cremaschi.
The versatile midfielder, who can operate as a number six, in a box-to-box role, or as a number eight, is also thought to be on the radar of Manchester City, Newcastle United and Brighton.
Spurs need more experience in midfield
Tottenham have plenty of young talent in the middle of the park in the form of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Pape Sarr, and one would not be surprised if Jamie Donley pushes for a first-team spot next season.
That is why Ange Postecoglou’s men arguably need to add more experience to their midfield department in the summer. They might thus prefer Cardoso over a raw talent like Benjamin Cremaschi.
