Women’s History Wednesdays: Cindy Parlow Cone

0 5

For Women’s History Month, the Spirit will be recognizing pivotal moments in history that advanced women’s rights and led us to where we are today. This week, we’re honoring Cindy Parlow Cone who became the first female president of the United States Soccer Federation in 2020.

On March 12, 2020, Cindy Parlow-Cone was elevated from Vice President to President of the United States Soccer Federation, becoming the first female to hold the title. She is one of only ten female federation presidents across FIFA’s 211 member associations.

A member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Cone won two Olympic gold medals during her eight-year U.S. Women’s National Team career, earning 158 caps and scoring 75 goals.

Under her leadership, U.S. Soccer, the United States Women’s National Team Players Association (USWNTPA), and the United States National Soccer Team Players Association (USNSTPA) agreed to historic, first-of-their-kind collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) that achieved equal pay through identical economic terms, setting a global standard for international soccer. This landmark CBA was signed in Washington, D.C., at Audi Field on September 6, 2022.
