Patriots Insider Believes New England Will Make This Huge Move

There aren’t any high-impact wideouts available in NFL free agency, and there probably still won’t be any after spring and summer cuts. There also aren’t any receivers in the 2025 draft class who are primed to become bonafide No. 1 options.

So if the Patriots want to vastly improve Drake Maye’s arsenal of weapons, they might have to focus on a certain method of addition.

The trade market could become New England’s best friend as it looks to bolster a receiving corps that has been among the league’s worst for years. And Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard, for one, believes the Patriots will make such a deal this offseason.

“I still believe in my bones the Patriots will find that receiver via trade, among the likes of AJ Brown and Brandon Aiyuk, ” Bedard wrote in a column published Monday. “The latter is the best option given the firesale in San Francisco, but he won’t be ready until at least midseason after major knee surgery.”

New England reportedly already inquired about Brown’s availability this offseason, but it’s unclear if Philadelphia would be willing to move off the accomplished pass-catcher. The Patriots also were hot on Aiyuk’s tail last offseason, but a major knee injury always presents cause for concern when it comes to skill-position players.

Outside of those two game-changers, it’s unclear who potentially could generate trade interest from New England. But at this point, the Patriots probably should be calling about any receiver who has even an outside chance of being moved.
