Mauricio Pochettino sends touching gesture to Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

0 0

Mauricio Pochettino has come out in support of Ange Postecoglou, calling on the Tottenham hierarchy to show some patience and give the Australian the time he needs to set things right in North London.

Even though Spurs still have a chance of achieving something historic in the Europa League this season, there seems to be a growing disillusionment among the fans about the direction the club are headed in.

Things continue to go from bad to worse in the Premier League for the Lilywhites and reports indicate that Tottenham have already identified potential candidates to replace Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian will know that unless he manages to go all the way in the Europa League his future at N17 might be in serious doubt.

Mauricio Pochettino explains why Ange Postecoglou deserves time

Recently, Pochettino revealed that he would be open to a Spurs return in the future, with many seeing those comments as the former Tottenham boss putting his name in the hat to replace Postecoglou.

However, the Argentine has now come out in support of the Aussie coach, pointing out that he suffered similar disruptions at Chelsea last year, which prevented him from getting the team moving in the direction he wanted.

The 53-year-old called for the current Spurs head coach to be given time and trust to turn things around.

When asked about Postecoglou’s predicament, Pochettino told Sky Sports: “We suffered something in Chelsea from the beginning when we suffered too many issues and when you don’t have your squad you cannot manage this type of thing and it forces you to try to find different ways to approach the team and it is always going to affect your result.

“It’s not an excuse because it happened with other teams, but sometimes that happens and you need to trust. I think they start to feel and to recover the path to start to win and then to start to improve in the Premier League.”

Postecoglou has no more excuses at Tottenham

Tottenham’s injury crisis was a genuine mitigating factor behind the team’s struggles earlier this season, which is why there was understandable sympathy for Postecoglou at the time.

However, now that the injury situation is a lot better, the former Celtic boss will be expected to deliver a strong finish to the season.

At the very least, he has to take Tottenham to a top 10 finish and to the final of the Europa League to restore faith among the Spurs hierarchy that he is the right man for the job.
