Ange Postecoglou admits his ‘unacceptable’ shortcoming at Tottenham this season

0 0

Ange Postecoglou has insisted that he understands the fans’ frustration and disappointment after Tottenham fell to their 15th Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday, with the Australian explaining what went wrong for his side at Craven Cottage.

Spurs fans have become used to seeing their side put in lacklustre displays away from home during the Postecoglou era.

It was a familiar tale once again at Craven Cottage as the away side struggled to create chances of note and fell to a 2-0 defeat.

It was Tottenham’s 15th defeat of the season in just 29 games, a more than 50 per cent loss ratio, which leaves the Lilywhites stranded in the bottom half of the table.

Ange Postecoglou sends message to Tottenham fans

Postecoglou has now confessed that the club’s league record this season is ‘unacceptable’ and admitted that he understands the fans’ frustrations.

However, he remarked that there was not too much wrong with Tottenham Hotspur’s performance, insisting that they once again handed the match to the opposition on a platter by conceding soft goals.

When asked about what he has to say to the fans now that Spurs have lost more than half of their league games this season, Postecoglou responded (via Football.London): “I get their disappointment. It’s unacceptable to see 15 league defeats. It’s nowhere near good enough, nowhere near the level we need to be and I understand the supporters’ frustrations with that.

“Today wasn’t so much about performance, it was just another day when we let a game get away from us that we shouldn’t have. We weren’t played off the park and I felt that up until the point they scored, we were the team that was getting on top.

“We had a couple of good chances to go 1-0 up and that would have put the pressure on them but it’s happened too many times this year. We’ve given the opposition a lift into the game by conceding soft goals.”

Postecoglou admits Spurs should have been more positive

The Tottenham boss did try to change things at half-time, bringing on Heung-min Son and Lucas Bergvall in place of Yves Bissouma and Brennan Johnson.

Postecoglou feels that the change did have the desired effect as his side was more threatening going forward at the start of the second half, but he conceded they should have been a lot more positive in the first period.

When asked about his double change at half-time, he said: “I felt we needed more going forward and I thought we started the second half a lot more positively. I felt it was going to be a kind of a game where there wasn’t going to be a lot of openings.

“But even within that in the first half, I thought we could have been a lot more positive with our play on the ball. I think that happened in the second half but again, irrespective of that, if you concede soft goals like we do then you make the game really difficult.”
