Tottenham tell Sweden boss something very interesting about Lucas Bergvall
Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has revealed that in his conversation with Tottenham Hotspur, the Premier League club told him something astounding about Lucas Bergvall that he did not realise.
We have seen time and again across the Premier League, including at Tottenham, that teenagers coming to the competition from other leagues often find it extremely difficult in their first season.
However, despite not even being one full season into his Spurs career, Lucas Bergvall has already established himself as a mainstay in the Tottenham starting eleven and has been one of the club’s most consistent performers over recent months.
The 19-year-old has grown immensely since arriving at Hotspur Way last summer and has exhibited why many back in Sweden consider him to be a generational talent.
Lucas Bergvall is making history at Tottenham
As one would expect, Bergvall has been a regular in the last few Sweden squads and has been getting some minutes under his belt.
Given the kind of talent and temperament the midfielder has showcased at Spurs, one would expect him to become one of the most important players for his national team set-up before long.
Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has now revealed that Tottenham pointed out something about Bergvall that makes his success in his first Premier League season even more remarkable.
Tomasson told Fotbollskanalen: “I’ve spoken to Tottenham too and they told me a story that I actually didn’t know: That the last player to go from a league in Scandinavia straight to the Premier League and play this much in his debut season was Daniel Agger. Many years ago. That says a little about Lucas’ performance as a very young player.”
Tomasson praises Bergvall’s mentality at Spurs
Tomasson opined what separates the Tottenham youngster from other talented teenagers is his mentality and his willingness to keep improving.
He pointed to the way Bergvall recovered after scoring an own goal in the first leg against AZ Alkmaar last week as evidence of his strong mentality.
The Sweden boss added about the midfielder: “I like that he is very humble and wants to get better all the time. We all know that he scored an own goal against AZ, and that can happen to anyone. But the game after that he played 45 minutes and did very well. That says a lot about his mentality.”
