U18s Report: Hibs 6 St Mirren 1

0 3

The wee Hibees began their post-split run-in with an emphatic victory over St Mirren U18s on Friday evening!

Darren McGregor’s side put six past St Mirren at HTC in what was a dominant display from start to finish.

Logan Jimenez bagged a brace with Dean Cleland, Lewis Gillie, Luke Davidson and a St Mirren own-goal seeing Hibs through to a comfortable victory.

The Hibees made the perfect start on the night, with Dean Cleland heading in Rory Whittaker’s dinked cross from close range after just five minutes.

Two minutes later, it was 2-0! Logan Jimenez created this one all on his own, picking up the ball on the touchline before driving towards goal and finishing from an acute angle to double the wee Hibees lead.

With just fifteen minutes on the clock, Jimenez got his second of the match and the Hibees third. The winger rose the highest in the six-yard box to nod home from a set-piece and put his side firmly in the driving side.

Lewis Gillie made it four mid-way inside the first half. The Hibs defended timed his run to perfection and glanced his header past the on-rushing St Mirren goalkeeper after a brilliant delivery from Josh McDonald.

We continued our dominance in the second half and were causing St Mirren real problems from set-pieces and crosses into the box. Josh McDonald was the provider once again, whipping in an excellent delivery towards the front post which clipped a St Mirren jersey on the way into the back of the net.

Substitute Luke Davidson added the wee Hibees sixth goal of the night with an expertly taken touch and finish. Jimenez did well to capitalise on some slack defending at the back from the visitors before unselfishly squaring it to Davidson – who made no mistake with his side-footed effort into the bottom corner.

St Mirren did pull back a late goal with a well-worked team goal on the break, but it was a mere consolation goal with the Hibees cruising to victory and firmly in control throughout the 90 minutes.

The result means we stay second in the CAS Elite League – two points behind Rangers with nine games to go.
