Ange Postecoglou publicly criticises Yves Bissouma for string of awful Tottenham games

0 4

Ange Postecoglou has made an admission about what Yves Bissouma is doing wrong at Tottenham after taking him off at half-time once again on Sunday and made a confession about the midfielder’s current mindset.

Bissouma has had an extremely poor run of form over the last few months and has found himself falling well behind in Postecoglou’s pecking order.

The midfielder was handed another opportunity at Craven Cottage on Sunday as Postecoglou rotated his side following the Europa League clash against Alkmaar, but the former Brighton man failed to take his opportunity.

The Mali international was once again withdrawn at half-time, with Lucas Bergvall coming on in his place, which is the fifth time that he has been substituted in the interval in his last five starts.

Ange Postecoglou reveals what he wants to see from Yves Bissouma

Postecoglou has now admitted that the 28-year-old has a habit of letting games drift by him rather than taking matches by the scruff of the neck.

The Tottenham boss remarked that his side needed Bissouma to be more dominant in possession than he has been of late.

When asked why he took the midfielder off at the interval yet again, Postecoglou told Football.London: “I just feel Biss can sometimes let the game drift by him. He needs to be a little bit more dominant in the way he gets on the ball.

“At times I think the game gets away from him and today we needed more in that position. I needed him to play though, because he hasn’t played a lot.

“At the same time, you’ve got to perform. It’s fair to say, Biss and a few others are probably lacking a bit of confidence. That’s affecting him but we’re at the point of the season now where we need guys to get out there and put those things to one side and perform.”

Postecoglou reveals reasons behind Bissouma’s Tottenham struggles

The Australian coach pointed out that the Spurs midfielder is simply lacking in confidence at the moment, making it clear that he cannot question his effort.

Postecoglou admitted that he and his coaching staff have to find a way to get Bissouma to get out of the rut he is currently in.

When asked if he is struggling to get through to Bissouma, the 59-year-old responded: “It’s not about getting through to him or a lack of effort. I just think with players sometimes they go through these spells and he needs to find a way to break through that and we need to find a way to get that out of him.”
