Tottenham are still working in very close contact with ‘moneyball’ scout
One leading scout has been working very closely with Tottenham Hotspur despite formally leaving his role at the club back in 2023, but Spurs are now in danger of losing his services.
Leonardo Gabbanini left his role as Tottenham’s chief scout at the start of the 2023-24 season.
Since then, a new regime has come in at Hotspur Way, with Johan Lange taking over as the club’s sporting director and Rob Mackenzie being appointed as the head of scouting.
However, a new update from Italy suggests that Gabbanini has not fully cut his ties with the North London club since departing around 18 months ago.
Leonardo Gabbanini has been working closely with Spurs
Gianluca di Marzio has now provided an extensive update on Gabbanini’s current preoccupation and his future.
The journalist explains that the 45-year-old is currently ‘working in very close contact’ with Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy despite formally exiting the Lilywhites.
Di Marzio praises Gabbanini for using the ‘Moneyball’ method in recruitment and managing to use minimal resources to secure players who are undervalued by the market.
The reporter adds that the Italian scout has received approaches from three Premier League clubs as well as Serie A duo, Atalanta and Fiorentina.
Now, Gabbanini is also thought to be in consideration for a full-time role at a Saudi Pro League club, which is why a return to Italy is described as an ‘uphill’ possibility.
Tottenham may also lose the services of Fabio Paratici
It is not just Gabbanini who is continuing to offer the services to Tottenham despite vacating his full-time position at the club.
His compatriot, Fabio Paratici has been working as a consultant for Spurs since resigning from his role as the club’s managing director of football nearly two years ago.
However, the 52-year-old could also soon cut his ties with Tottenham as it has emerged over recent days that Paratici is one of the leading contenders to take over as AC Milan’s sporting director.
