Patriots Fans Will Hate New Report About Team’s Cooper Kupp Plan

In a vacuum, it makes a ton of sense for the Patriots to add Cooper Kupp. And the veteran wide receiver himself reportedly is “curious” about the idea of playing in New England.

However, it doesn’t sound like the sides will be coming together.

In a column published Thursday evening, The Athletic’s Chad Graff reported the Patriots’ current plans do not include signing Kupp or offensive tackle Cam Robinson. Both players would address major needs in New England, where the franchise’s latest spending spree focused more on the defensive side of the football.

It’s unclear what was the prevailing factor in the Patriots’ decision to reportedly not aggressively pursue Kupp. However, Boston Sports Journal’s Mike Giardi on Thursday reported the Super Bowl LVI MVP hit the open market with an “insane” asking price. New England has money to spend, but the franchise might not be keen on shelling out significant dough to a receiver who turns 32 this summer.

Not to mention, Mike Vrabel on Thursday didn’t seem too concerned about the Patriots’ ability to bolster their receiving corps. New England’s new head coach knows that while the current market isn’t terribly favorable, players become available as time goes on.

As for where Kupp could end up, ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Friday reported the Dallas Cowboys were making a “strong push” to add the accomplished pass-catcher.
