Former Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett Reportedly Lands New NFL Home
It comes as no surprise that Jacoby Brissett’s second stint with the New England Patriots was one-and-done.
Brissett found his next NFL home Tuesday as he reportedly plans to sign with the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The Cardinals will be the sixth team of Brissett’s career.
Brissett will go to the Cardinals as the definitive backup to starter Kyler Murray. While Arizona might not be getting the most talented quarterback in Brissett, it is getting an experienced one. Brissett has appeared in 87 games, including 53 starts, over his nine-year career.
Joining the Cardinals will also reunite Brissett with offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. Petzing served as Brissett’s quarterbacks coach during his lone season with the Cleveland Browns in 2022.
Brissett, who was originally drafted by New England in the third round in 2016, was always viewed as a bridge quarterback when the Patriots brought him back on a one-year deal last offseason. The 32-year-old ended up starting five games for the Patriots and took a beating — he was sacked 18 times — before giving way to rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
The Patriots opened up the 2024 campaign with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals with Brissett behind center. It was Brissett’s only win he was credited with on the season — he did lead New England past the New York Jets in Week 8 when he came on for an injured Maye — as Patriots the dropped the last four games the veteran signal-caller starter.
Brissett leaving for the Cardinals wasn’t the only shake up to New England’s quarterback room this offseason. The Patriots reportedly filled the veteran void at the position by adding Joshua Dobbs on a two-year, $8 million deal with $3.8 million guaranteed.
And there’s also the possibility the Patriots sell high on Joe Milton III and trade him.
