Weekend preview: Top three hopes set for Centurions test
Royal Wootton Bassett Town's hopes of a top three finish in the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North will go a long way to being settled on Sunday when Bassett make the short trip to face local rivals Cirencester Town (2pm kick off). Cirencester currently occupy the place that Bassett have their eyes set on, and hold a four point lead over Adam Wood's side (although the Centurions have played three games more). A win on Sunday should realistically make Bassett favourites. Defeat, however, will likely make it advantage Cirencester. A draw could even open the door for an in form Bath City. There was nothing to separate Bassett and Cirencester when the teams met at the Sustain Stadium in October in a game that ended 2-2. Another close contest should therefore be on the cards. Prior to that Saturday sees the Men's First Team play their penultimate away fixture of their Hellenic League Premier Division campaign as Sam Collier's side visit Lydney Town (3pm kick off). For both sides it's a must win. Highworth Town's 3-0 victory against Hereford Pegasus on Monday means that Bassett must win out (and hope Highworth fail to win their remaining games) if they are to claim fifth spot and guarantee a playoff spot. Relegation threatened Lydney, meanwhile, need points to pull clear of the bottom two. When the teams met in Wiltshire in September, Lydney took the lead before Bassett claimed a convincing 4-1 victory. Lydney did beat Bassett on home soil last season though. Then in the Wiltshire League Premier Division it's another big home fixture for the Development team as they welcome Pewsey Vale (3pm kick off). Mark Simpkins' side will be aiming to replicate their result against Shrivenham last week as they continue their push to secure Premier Division status. Admission on Saturday is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members.
