Tottenham must be ‘mindful’ of key Lucas Bergvall detail, says Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou has praised Lucas Bergvall for the impact he made off the bench against Bournemouth but admitted that Tottenham have been cautious of one thing regarding the 18-year-old.

Bergvall has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers of late and the teenager has now ensured that he is one of the mainstays in the club’s midfield.

The fact that Postecoglou chose to rest the Swede along with the likes of Heung-min Son and James Maddison against Bournemouth ahead of the all-important second leg against Alkmaar, shows how important the youngster has now become the side.

The former Djurgardens man came on at half-time in place of Yves Bissouma and his introduction made a big difference to the side, which was acknowledged by Postecoglou.

However, the Tottenham head coach admitted that he and his coaching staff have to be wary of the fact that the youngster has had a lot of minutes in his legs over the past few months.

When asked about the impact that Bergvall made, Postecoglou responded (via Football.London): “Lucas was great. He has been great but he has played a lot and we’ve just got to be mindful of that. He’s becoming an important part of our team. I thought he made a real big impact when he came on.

“Like I said we were sloppy when we were on the ball in the first half and he’s one who takes a bit more care with it. He’s a technician and he carries the ball really well. I thought he and Sonny made a really good impact when they came on.”

An exciting few years ahead for Bergvall and Spurs

Bergvall is potentially a generational talent and has an incredibly high ceiling, which is why it is great news for Tottenham that he has managed to become a key part of the side so soon.

The 18-year-old will continue developing different aspects of his game and there is no doubt that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the next year or two as he gets accustomed to the pace and physicality of the game at the highest level.
