Preview: Liverpool vs Paris Saint-Germain – Prediction, Team News, Line-ups
In a blockbuster Champions League fixture, Liverpool will welcome French champions Paris Saint-Germain to Anfield on Tuesday evening in the second-leg of their last-16 tie.
Arne Slot’s men have an advantage in the tie after beating PSG 1-0 at the Parc des Princes earlier this month.
Match Preview
Liverpool were not convincing in Paris as Luis Enrique’s men dominated for the majority of the game.
The hosts registered a total of 27 shots, yet they failed to breach the Reds’ defence. This was mainly due to the excellence of Alisson Becker between the sticks, with the Brazilian making an incredible nine saves during the match.
Then, Harvey Elliott stepped off the bench to score a dramatic 87th minute winner, giving his side a big advantage.
Liverpool followed that up with a 3-1 home success against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
After conceding a first-half goal, the Reds made a rousing comeback in the next half. Darwin Nunez restored parity with a simple tap-in before Mohamed Salah struck twice from the penalty spot to extend Liverpool’s lead to 15 points at the top.
They will now refocus their attentions to the Champions League, where PSG will be looking to overturn the deficit at Anfield.
The Ligue 1 giants returned to winning ways at the weekend, dispatching Rennes 4-1 at the Roazhon Park.
Goals from Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos put the visitors in a commanding position before Ousmane Dembele bagged a brace in added time to wrap up an emphatic victory.
Team News
Cody Gakpo wasn’t part of Liverpool’s squad in Saturday’s win over Southampton, and so he is a serious doubt for the visit of the French champions. Tyler Morton, Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley are guaranteed absentees as they are all in the treatment room.
Meanwhile, PSG will enter the Anfield game without a single injury concern. Luis Enrique rested most of his senior starters for the weekend clash, but they are set to return to the first-team on Tuesday.
