Djed Spence issues the strongest support of Ange Postecoglou yet – ‘We all fight for him’

0 0

Djed Spence has spoken about the mood in the Tottenham squad ahead after the 1-0 defeat to AZ Alkmaar in the first leg and insisted that he and his teammates are ready to fight for Ange Postecoglou when the Dutch club visit North London for the return leg.

Tottenham are still very much in the Europa League round of 16 tie and may fancy their chances of turning around the one-goal deficit at home.

In fact, Ange Postecoglou has confidently asserted that Spurs have the tools to break down the Alkmaar, even though they did not manage to do so at the AFAS Stadium last Thursday.

Djed Spence says Spurs players are fully behind Ange Postecoglou

Should Tottenham Hotspur fail to overcome Alkmaar and exit the Europa League in the first knockout round, some serious questions will be asked about Postecoglou’s future at the club.

Spence has now made it clear that the dressing room is fully behind the Australian and that they will fight to turn around the result when the Dutch side visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next week.

When asked if the Spurs head coach still has the backing of the squad, the full-back said (via Football.London): “Most definitely. We believe in what he wants us to do. We try to implement that in every game. Of course, it’s not going to work in every game, but the manager has our full support.

“We are all behind him and we want to show that by winning games. We didn’t win today (in the first leg) but come next week we’ll get the win. We’ve got to play better. Most definitely we can turn it around. We’re a good side and come Thursday, we will turn it around.”

Spence stresses family feel at Tottenham

The former Middlesbrough man perhaps has reason to be a little cross with the Spurs boss, who was very reluctant to hand him an opportunity earlier this season.

In fact, Postecoglou admitted that he deliberately made things difficult for Spence at the start of the campaign to test his hunger, praising the defender for the way he passed the test.

However, the 24-year-old insisted that everyone at the club is one big family and vowed to fight for the Australian.

Spence added: “He’s the manager of the football club, you know. He’s the manager and we are a team and a family. When one of your family members is in trouble or whatever, you go to support them.

“That’s what I did, supported the manager. We all fight for him at the end of the day and that’s our main target for the team.”
