Tottenham urged to replace senior star with Jack Grealish this summer

0 6

One Tottenham fan believes that Jack Grealish could be the perfect man to replace one of Ange Postecoglou’s senior stars in the summer transfer window.

Heung-min Son, Tottenham Hotspur’s captain, has faced criticism in recent months, with some even calling for his replacement.

Of course, a few Tottenham players have defended their skipper. Young midfielder Archie Gray insists under-fire Son remains world-class.

Meanwhile, manager Ange Postecoglou pushed back against those quick to write off Heung-min Son, defending his talisman against critics.

Yet, with his numbers declining, sections of the fanbase are starting to wonder if it is time for a new face to take his place.

Tottenham fan names Jack Grealish as Heung-min Son replacement

With Son’s influence waning, calls for change have intensified. Former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed Mathys Tel as Tottenham’s Heung-min Son replacement.

Now, one fan, calling into talkSport—where ex-Tottenham striker Darren Bent was co-presenting—threw a different name into the mix: Jack Grealish.

“I think the best team for him is Spurs because [Ange] Postecoglou will let him play, and that is what he needs,” the caller argued. “At the moment, I would [take him], because Son is not as good as he was, and I think you need someone who is slightly better. I think Jack Grealish is the man to replace Son.”

The idea is not entirely far-fetched as Tottenham have been linked with a move for Jack Grealish in recent months. Bent, meanwhile, weighed in on the debate, assessing Son’s recent performances.

“You cannot hide the fact he has not been as effective as he usually is—that comes with age,” Bent admitted. “Grealish is 29, though, and he looks in unbelievable nick.”

Grealish has struggled at Manchester City

There is no doubt Grealish is a quality player, but his time at City has been inconsistent. In only two of his four seasons at the Etihad has he managed to register double digits in goal contributions across all competitions.

This campaign has been particularly tough. The England international has just one Premier League assist to his name, with no goals to accompany it.

He has been handed only six league starts and has completed the full 90 minutes on just two occasions. For a player of his calibre, those numbers highlight the challenges he is facing under Pep Guardiola this term.

However, under Ange Postecoglou, there is a chance that Grealish is given more freedom to influence games like he did during his time at Aston Villa. If he does reach those levels, then he could come good at Spurs.
