AC Milan regret not pushing player to join Tottenham Hotspur in January
A new report from Italy claims that AC Milan have been hurt financially by one player’s decision to reject Tottenham’s advances during the January transfer window.
It was widely reported in the final days of the January transfer window that Tottenham made a move for Fikayo Tomori, but the AC Milan man turned down the chance to join the Lilywhites.
Tomori subsequently admitted that he never considered joining Spurs or departing the San Siro at all, despite the fact he has struggled for game time for much of the season.
Spurs secured Kevin Danso from Lens instead, but some reports over the last month have backed Tottenham to return for Tomori in the summer.
AC Milan may rue Tomori’s transfer decision
A fresh report from Tuttomercatoweb has now pointed out that during the January window, Tomori briefly forced himself into Milan’s starting eleven, but he has subsequently fallen down the pecking order again.
They point out that the defender has not featured in the club’s last three Serie A games, and the feeling at the Italian club is that the player should have joined Tottenham Hotspur in January.
His unwillingness to do so means that the Rossoneri have suffered a financial blow as Tomori is expected to fetch a lower fee in the summer than what Spurs were willing to pay in the previous transfer window.
The centre-back’s ‘economic devaluation’ is expected to cost the club as the player looks set to head for the exit door at the end of this season.
Why Tottenham may not go back in for Fikayo Tomori
Tottenham’s options in the January window would have been limited and the club were going through a major injury crisis in defence at the time, which is why they seemingly made advances towards Tomori in the previous window.
However, the situation is no longer as desperate after the arrival of Kevin Danso and there will also be a lot more options on the market, which is why Postecoglou’s men are unlikely to go knocking on Milan’s door for the Englishman again.
