Bayern Munich director reveals why he let Mathys Tel join Tottenham Hotspur

Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has made an interesting comment about Mathys Tel’s move to Tottenham, with his words seemingly sending a strong hint that the forward is not expected to return to the Allianz Arena in the summer.

Tel has not hit the ground running at Tottenham, having found the back of the net just once so far, with the striker still continuing to adjust to the demands of Premier League football.

Spurs have a £45m option to buy Tel permanently in the summer, and reports indicate that the forward is enjoying his time in North London club so far.

Some interesting comments coming out of Bayern regarding the forward’s January switch have now seemingly boosted Tottenham’s chances of landing the player permanently.

Eberl was asked about Bayern’s decision to offload the teenager, who was rated by many as one of the best young forwards in his age group not too long ago.

He explained that it simply was not a good fit for both parties, which is why the Bundesliga giants made the ‘tough’ decision to let the Frenchman go.

When asked about Tel leaving the Allianz Arena, the Bayern director said (via Fabrizio Romano): “The situation with us developed differently than expected. Sometimes you have to make such tough decisions because development has stagnated and it’s not a good fit for either side.”

Erbel comments indicate Bayern do not expect Tel to return

These comments certainly do not sound like the Bundesliga club expect the 19-year-old to be back at the club at the end of his loan spell in the summer.

It appears like they have made their mind up to sell him, even if Tottenham do not activate their option to buy in the summer.

One would think that the clause would be activated by Spurs if the teenager expresses an intention to stay, but the situation could change depending on what happens over the coming months.
