Darts Academy trials prove huge success as club plans for the future

The next batch of future Darts stars had their first taste of life at Prince Park last month.

Interested scholars for the Darts Academy 25/26 were invited to trial, with the club’s first ever event for the new Girls’ Academy also taking place on a separate day.

The Girls’ Academy was one of the focus areas earmarked by The Board to support its five-year plan unveiled in January – and marks an exciting new chapter in the club’s history.

On the boys’ side, some 45 players trialled, including around 20 new players from other clubs not already in the Darts system, with a number now added to the cohort coming through from the Under-16s Youth Academy.

Meanwhile, the girls’ trial saw 24 players take part, with 18 showing their intention of interest by the end with the expected launch in September.

Darts Academy Manager Ben Greenhalgh said: “We don’t go too high on numbers in the boys’ side of the Academy. We go for quality.

“I think that is speaking volumes at a first team level right now, where the players feel like they’re part of the club, and that they could actually get an opportunity in the club.

“If you add too many, you will find that not everyone’s playing for Dartford Football Club, really, they’re more playing for themselves and will look to go elsewhere when the opportunity arises.”

Tony Burman added: “For the girls, we had an open day where we showed them the facilities and gave a presentation, with an open question and answer session with parents. They then had a training session.

“We had some excellent feedback saying it was very professionally done. I’m delighted with the numbers that attended, it’s an exciting new chapter for the Club.”

Further trials for both sections will be held next month.
