Tottenham have ‘little chance’ of winning race for 17-goal striker

0 6

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to struggle to complete the signing of a Bundesliga marksman after a few of their Premier League rivals entered the race to sign the player.

Given the dearth of top-class number nines around Europe and the fact that several Premier League teams are in need of someone to lead their line, it should not come as a surprise that one RB Leipzig man is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer.

Benjamin Sesko has emerged as one of the best young strikers in German football since arriving at Leipzig back in 2023, with the youngster having found the back of the net 17 times across all competitions so far this season.

It has been reported over recent days that Tottenham are one of the clubs eyeing a move for Benjamin Sesko, but a fresh report has now cast doubt on the Lilywhites’ chances of completing a deal.

Tottenham not one of the frontrunners for Benjamin Sesko

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now taken to social media to reveal that several top English clubs are eyeing a move for the 21-year-old in the summer.

He claims that Spurs currently ‘have very little chance’ of securing a deal for Sesko after Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal expressed ‘concrete interest’ in the player recently.

Plettenberg adds that Leipzig are aware of the strong interest from England in their star forward, pointing out that the Bundesliga club are protected by the former Red Bull Salzburg’s man release clause, which is expected to rise to €80m (£66.2m) by the end of the season.

Spurs unlikely to break their transfer record to sign Sesko

With Richarlison potentially on his way out of Spurs this summer, and with Timo Werner’s loan spell coming to an end, there is no doubt that Tottenham will want to reinforce their frontline this summer.

However, one doubts that the club would be willing to spend upwards of £50m or £60m on an out-and-out centre-forward like Sesko.

Postecoglou might prefer to spend that kind of money on a top-class wide player such as Jamie Gittens or Antoine Semenyo.
