Troy Parrott makes interesting claim about his time at Tottenham ahead of Europa League reunion
Troy Parrott is relishing the chance to face his former club as Tottenham Hotspur prepares for their Europa League round of 16 clash – the Irish striker, who left Spurs in the summer, has been in fine form this season and insists he has no regrets over his departure.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League round of 16 clash is more than just another European fixture. It marks a reunion between Spurs and their former striker Troy Parrott, who will be looking to make his mark against his old side.
The young Irishman departed north London in the summer and has since found his feet, delivering an impressive return in front of goal.
He has netted 17 times this season, four of which have come in the Europa League, proving himself to be a key figure for his new club. However, he did not find the back of the net against Tottenham in the League Phase, which ended in a 1-0 Spurs win thanks to a Richarlison penalty.
Troy Parrott looks back on his Tottenham career fondly
Ahead of Thursday night’s encounter, Parrott spoke about Tottenham Hotspur and his time at the club.
Reflecting on Tottenham’s campaign, he told football.london: “It should be interesting because we are doing a lot better now as a team. For us, it is really important to do as well as we can. It is all on us to keep progressing as far as we can in the tournament.
“I am sure it is disappointing for everyone there. When I was there, the focus was always the top four and being at the top of the table.
“I think looking from the outside, because I am not in there anymore, it looks like there is disappointment. They are not doing as well as they want to. It seems like a difficult time for them. I am just trying to focus on my team and what we have to do tomorrow to try to get a result.”
When asked whether he had any regrets about leaving Tottenham, the 23-year-old was clear in his response.
“No, definitely not. For me, it just did not happen. I am OK with that. I am here, I am really enjoying myself here, I love life over here. Now I am just focusing on where I am right now and trying to progress and keep getting better here.”
Parrott relishing the chance to score against Spurs
Despite the move away, Troy Parrott holds fond memories of his time at Spurs and also revealed that he is relishing the chance to score on Thursday.
He said: “I look back with a smile. It is a place where I grew up… I want to score in every game and tomorrow is just another game to try to do that. It would be nice for me, it would be nice for the team also, so let us see.”
With his fine form in front of goal, Tottenham will need to be wary of their former academy product, who will be eager to show them exactly what they are missing.
