Massive DK Metcalf Report Surfaces Amid Rumors Of Patriots Interest

Over the weekend, the Boston Herald reported the Patriots have “kicked the tires” on the idea of trading for DK Metcalf.

Well, a blockbuster move that would send the superstar wide receiver to New England now seems more realistic.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on Wednesday reported Metcalf has requested a trade out of Seattle. Furthermore, the Seahawks reportedly have “decided to explore” the possibility of moving on from the two-time Pro Bowl selection.

With Tee Higgins receiving the franchise tag from the Cincinnati Bengals and Deebo Samuel landing with the Washington Commanders, Metcalf now is comfortably the best wideout available in either free agency or the trade market. The 27-year-old should be a person of interest to the Patriots, who really need to improve their receiver corps for Drake Maye’s sophomore season and beyond.

Although Metcalf is a highly productive pass-catcher, risk would come with trading for the 2019 second-round pick. He has a base salary of $18 million for the upcoming season and can hit unrestricted free agency after the 2025 campaign. A win-now club might be willing to take a one-year flier on Metcalf, but a rebuilding team like the Patriots probably would need some assurances from him before finalizing such a seismic move.

Metcalf himself might not love the idea of calling Gillette Stadium home, though. He called the Patriots a “great organization” in late January, but in the same breath, Metcalf deemed New England “not a desirable place” to make his NFL home.
