Red Sox Insider Makes Significant Projection About Top Prospect

Red Sox fans might have to remain patient as they wait for the start of an elite prospect’s MLB career.

Kristian Campbell entered Boston’s 2025 spring training surrounded by a borderline overwhelming level of hype. Following a huge breakout season in the minors, there was belief that Campbell could crack the Red Sox’s Opening Day roster as the starting second baseman.

That expectation dwindled a bit upon Alex Bregman’s arrival, but it lost even more steam as Campbell began to struggle in Fort Myers, Fla. And at this point, one Red Sox insider has a tough time seeing the 22-year-old opening the regular season in the big leagues.

“The more that time goes on, the more it feels like Kristian Campbell won’t be on the Opening Day roster,” MLB.com’s Ian Browne posted to X on Tuesday. “Alex Cora loves the work ethic and the athleticism but he is still a work in progress at being ready to play second in the majors in three weeks.”

That shouldn’t be viewed as a setback or knock against Campbell. As a 2023 fourth-round pick, the versatile youngster already is well ahead of schedule in his development. And thanks to a very talented roster, the Red Sox aren’t in a position where they need to rush Campbell to The Show.

Thus, there shouldn’t be any worries among the Fenway Faithful about one of Boston’s premier prospects. The Red Sox are poised to be cautious with Campbell, and both he and the franchise probably will be better off for it.
