Queen’s Park 3 Dundee United 0

Two first half goals by Connor Falls and Aidan McGinlay, followed by a solo goal by Godspower Oguama, early in the second half, on Friday night at Lochinch, were enough for the Wee Spiders to win and confirm their place in the top six of the CAS Elite Under 18 League with one game to go before the split.

A perfect night for football at Lochinch, dry with little wind to disrupt play.

After initial sizing each other up, it was Queen’s who created the first chance. In the ninth minute, Godspower Oguama broke down the left side playing the ball into Connor Falls, whose shot was blocked by a Dundee United defender.

The game developed with the Wee Spiders dominating the ball and the Tangerine Terrors sitting well back, blocking their way to goal.

Godspower Oguama came very close to opening the scoring in the 13th minute when his shot from 12 yards out was blocked by Kuba Zerebecki, in goal for the Tannadice side.

The constant pressure by Queen’s paid off in the 37th minute, when Leo Clark was brought down inside the United box. Connor Falls took the spot kick, sending the keeper the wrong way.

1-0 to Queen's

Four minutes from the interval Aidan McGinlay made it 2-0 to Queen’s. From a free kick on the halfway line, the ball was played down the right side, then onto Aiden, who took a touch, cut inside, then fired a low shot past the keeper from 16 yard out.

The game continued in the second half in a similar fashion as the first with the Wee Spiders dominating play and Dundee United looking to catch Queen’s on the break.

The hard working Godspower Oguama got his reward for all his efforts in the 63rd minute. He picked the ball up at halfway, raced past two defenders, rounded the keeper, who had moved 30 yard out of goal, then composed himself before shooting into the empty net from 14 yards out.

That goal seemed to take the edge off the game with the momentum dropping and Queen’s seeing out the rest of the half comfortably.
