Weekend preview: Bassett visit Pershore in crucial playoff test
Royal Wootton Bassett Town face another crucial clash that will go a long way to determining their Hellenic League Premier Division playoff fate when they visit Pershore Town on Saturday (3pm kick off). Both teams remain in the hunt for a top five finish - but are in urgent need of a win to keep those hopes alive. Pershore, who won 2-1 when the teams met in Wiltshire in December, currently sit four points behind Bassett with a game in hand to play. A victory for the Plums would therefore give them the opportunity to leapfrog Bassett when that extra fixture is played. A Bassett triumph, however, would mean Sam Collier's side are strong favourites to finish above Pershore. Bassett are yet to beat Pershore in three competitive fixtures the teams have played, including a 3-2 defeat in Worcestershire last season. There's a big derby game for the Development team on Saturday - albeit with implications at the opposite end of the table in the Wiltshire League Premier Division. Bassett host second place Shrivenham as Mark Simpkins' side aim to steer clear of dropping into the bottom three. Kick off is 3pm at the Sustain Stadium. Admission is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. On Sunday the Women's First Team look to bounce back to winning ways when they visit Wiltshire rivals Corsham Town in the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North (2pm kick off). Bassett claimed a 1-0 win when the teams met just a fortnight ago.
