Tottenham yellow card update: How close are players to Premier League suspensions
Ange Postecoglou could certainly do without the prospect of any of his Tottenham Hotspur missing any upcoming game time, especially when it comes down to any disclipinary issues on the pitch.
Under the FA’s rules, players who receive five yellow cards before gameweek 19 are handed a one-match ban something which the likes of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur experienced earlier this season.
However, following the 19-game mark, players have to receive a total of 10 yellow cards in their first 32 Premier League matches to be in line for another suspension.
If they do reach double-digit bookings before gameweek 19, they will receive a two-match suspension rather than just one.
Are any Spurs players at the risk of a Premier League suspension?
Tottenham have played 27 Premier League games so far, which means that there are five more games before which players have to avoid reaching a tally of 10 yellow cards.
However, this is not a big problem for Spurs as according to the Premier League website, the player with the most yellow cards for the club is Rodrigo Bentancur, with just six to his name this season.
The next highest are Yves Bissouma, James Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr, who have five bookings each so far.
That means that unless Bentancur picks up four bookings in Tottenham’s next five league matches or Bissouma, Maddison or Sarr pick up five yellows in that time, the Spurs players are safe from being hit with a suspension.
All eyes on the Europa League for Spurs
With Tottenham having little to play for in the Premier League, the yellow card situation would not really concern Ange Postecoglou.
The Spurs boss will be more worried about ensuring that his key players avoid suspensions and injuries for the crunch Europa League fixtures coming up as the club get set to launch an assault on the trophy.
