Archie Gray claims under-fire Tottenham star is a ‘world-class player’
Archie Gray has now lavished praise on a senior Tottenham man, who has come under plenty of criticism of late, with the youngster explaining how he played a key role in helping him settle at the North London club after he joined from Leeds United last summer.
Heung-min Son is arguably having his toughest period at Tottenham since his first year at White Hart Lane, with the forward falling well short of the standards he has set for himself over the course of his decade at the club.
Some in the media have been critical with Jamie O’Hara claimjng Son is not the right captain for Tottenham any more.
The South Korean enters the final year of his contract next season with reports suggesting Son could leave Tottenham this summer.
Archie Gray’s leaps to the defence of Heung-min Son
Despite what is being said about Son by pundits and some fans on social media, Ange Postecoglou has continued to defend his captain, insisting that he still belongs among the elite forwards in the Premier League.
Archie Gray agrees with the Tottenham head coach’s assessment, with the teenager praising the South Korean for making him very comfortable at Hotspur Way following his big switch last summer.
The Leeds academy graduate told ESPN about Son: “He’s definitely a world-class player and as a person, he’s probably one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Ever since I first moved to the club, he always sat down and had breakfast with me every morning.
“Which, for a new player at the club – you look at players like Sonny, Madders [James Maddison], all of them in the squad to be fair – you wouldn’t really expect them to go out of their way to speak to the new 18-year-old who’s just come from a Championship club. To be fair to them, they’ve helped me settle in really well and everyone has been amazing with me.”
A big few months coming up for Son at Tottenham
Tottenham’s injury crisis has meant that Son and a few other players at the club have been run into the ground over the last few months.
The forward would be extremely fatigued both physically and mentally, which might explain why he has looked lacking in sharpness.
We have already seen a different Son over the last couple of matches, now that he has had a bit more rest, and one would not put it beyond the forward to have a strong end to the season and silence his critics.
