Bruins Reportedly Place Struggling Forward On Waivers

The Boston Bruins reportedly placed former first-round draft pick Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers Thursday, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli and several other insiders.

Wahlstrom joined Boston in mid-December after the organization claimed the Portland, Maine native off waivers from the New York Islanders.

The Black and Gold were hoping Wahlstrom would provide an offensive punch to the struggling Bruins despite recording just four points in 27 games for the Islanders this season.

Unfortunately, the change of scenery didn’t help the 24-year-old right wing. Wahlstrom tallied one goal and one assist in 16 games with Boston, while averaging 10:30 time-on-ice in that span.

Wahlstrom has played in 236 career NHL games, scoring 37 goals with 73 points with the Bruins and Islanders. His best offensive output came in the 2021-22 campaign when he tallied 13 goals and 11 assists in 73 games with New York.

It’s unclear if the Bruins, who have yet to make an official announcement, will assign Wahlstrom to Providence if he clears waivers at 2 p.m. ET on Friday.
