Pep Guardiola reveals five reasons he likes Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou
Ahead of his side’s showdown against Tottenham Hotspur this evening, Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Ange Postecoglou and the way his Spurs side play football.
The mood around Tottenham, which was extremely negative two weeks ago after they were knocked out from the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup, has improved in light of the wins over Man Utd and Ipswich.
The performances from the Lilywhites were much improved in those two matches, with those displays unsurprisingly coinciding with the return of key players to the side.
Ange Postecoglou’s men are now looking to make it four wins in four Premier League matches when they take on Man City, a side who they have already beaten twice this season.
Pep Guardiola identifies a big difference with Tottenham
Pep Guardiola has a poor record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with his side usually struggling to score goals at the venue and often returning empty-handed.
He is not under any illusions about the quality that the current Spurs side possesses in attack, but the Spanish coach pointed out that the Lilywhites have been more patient in the final third of late than they were before.
Guardiola also revealed he loves watching Spurs due to the individual quality, intensity, transitional runners, rhythm and because of Ange Postecoglou’s high-level management.
Speaking ahead of his City’s away trip to Tottenham, Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference about his upcoming opponents (via Beanyman Sports): “They’re a fantastic team, quality, individual quality they have, the rhythm they play, the intensity, incredible runners with transitions.
“But I’ve seen lately, they’re a little more poised in the final third, more extra passes that maybe before they finished actions so, so quick. They can do it of course but at the same time, they can do it especially with [James] Maddison plays, so the results dictate one thing but the opinion about the team is completely the opposite.”

Guardiola also lent his support towards Postecoglou, who has come under immense pressure over recent months.
The six-time Premier League winner insisted that while the results might not have always been favourable for Tottenham recently, the Australian is building something encouraging in N17.
When asked what his opinion is of Postecoglou’s work at Spurs, Guardiola said: “High-level manager. I have a high opinion of him (Postecoglou). I try not to judge results, you have to see the ideas; sometimes it’s going well, sometimes not much but I have a high, high opinion.”
