Dejan Kulusevski names ‘talented’ Tottenham midfielder he learns a lot from

0 6

Dejan Kulusevski has praised James Maddison’s influence at Tottenham Hotspur, stressing the importance of having the midfielder on the pitch.

Maddison has been in the spotlight in recent weeks. The Tottenham playmaker was criticised by former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane, who questioned Maddison’s ability to step up in big moments ahead of Spurs’ clash against United.

Maddison responded in style, scoring the winner against the Red Devils. He further silenced doubts by making an instant impact off the bench against Ipswich Town, providing an assist for Djed Spence’s first Premier League goal.

The midfielder is one of the more senior players in the current Spurs setup and the way he has conducted himself following recent criticism, letting his performance on the pitch do the talking, is a model for the youngsters at Spurs.

Dejan Kulusevski hails James Maddison’s quality and leadership

Tottenham winger Dejan Kulusevski has now showered praise on Maddison, emphasising his importance to the team. The Swede believes the midfielder’s presence on the pitch leads to ‘special things’ happening and also highlighted his leadership off it.

Dejan Kulusevski told SkySports: “He’s a very talented player; always when he plays, he’s going to make good things happen. We want him on the pitch because he’s a great, great player.

The 24-year-old also spoke highly of Maddison’s influence in the dressing room, adding: “He’s also a great guy to have in the squad and he treats everyone really well – the younger and older players.

“He’s a great guy who I learn stuff from. The way he acts, I think it’s great how he respects everybody, how he talks and tries to get everyone involved. I’ve been learning things from him.”

Maddison’s Tottenham numbers reflect his growing influence

Despite starting just 16 games this season, Maddison’s statistics underline his impact on Tottenham’s campaign.

The midfielder is just one shy of hitting double figures for league goals and has provided five assists, bringing his total goal contributions to 14. You can see why Dejan Kulusevski is so keen on getting Maddison out on the pitch more.

Last season, he managed the same tally after twenty-six starts. His growing influence at Spurs is evident, with his ability to create and convert chances proving invaluable to Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad.
