Ange Postecoglou says one Tottenham star was ‘unplayable’ against Ipswich
Brennan Johnson bagged an impressive brace against Ipswich Town, but Ange Postecoglou has described one of his Tottenham teammates as ‘unplayable’ following the decisive victory.
From defeats in domestic trophies to rumours of Ange Postecoglou’s job being under threat, it has been a difficult few weeks for Tottenham. Their response, however, has been worthy of praise, which included a win over Manchester United last weekend.
Tottenham had a favourable fixture today against Ipswich Town, although they were defeated by the Suffolk outfit earlier in the season. This time around, however, Spurs made no mistake, securing a comfortable 4-1 victory.
Brennan Johnson made his first start since returning from injury and he did so in style, scoring twice in the first half. The Welshman has received praise from his manager for his display, but Postecoglou has also waxed lyrical about another of his players.
Ange Postecogou heaps praise on Tottenham’s Heung-min-Son
Johnson will steal all the headlines after his two goals against Ipswich and he was joined on the scoresheet by Djed Spence, who scored a deflected effort, and Dejan Kulusevski.
However, one player who was unable to get a goal still managed to impress Postecoglou and that is none other than Spurs captain Heung-min-Son.
Speaking to Sky Sports (22/02/25 at 18:00), Postecoglou praised the Korean international, who registered two assists and also created another big chance which was not converted.
He said: “They’re [Ipswich] one of the hardest-working teams in the league.
“You know you’re going up against a battle and a contest – we had to do that today. First half, we could have done better. We allowed them some moments, but in the second half, we dug in. That allowed us to execute and play our football.
“When you come to a place like this, the crowd creates some energy – we had to weather that storm. We were always a threat. Sonny [Son] was unplayable in that first half. So great to get Brennan [Johnson] back. He scores so many goals for us in those areas.”
Son is no stranger to goal contributions for Spurs this season
Son has faced his fair share of criticism this season, but he has remained consistent when it comes to goal contributions.
While his six Premier League goals are underwhelming compared with last season, the 32-year-old has registered nine assists, with only four players managing more.
There are doubts over whether Son has a long-term future at the club, but one certain thing is that his goals and assists will be important as Spurs look to get back to their best.
